KOTA KINABALU: The Futsal Carnival in Tawau was as successful as others that were staged in various districts in which the Carnival, open for under-12 boys and girls, was a joint effort between Sabah Sports Board, Education Department, District offices, Sabah Sports Council and the Sabah Amateur Football Association (Safa).
The curtain-raiser was in Kota Kinabalu and its aim is to develop football among the very young at grassroot levels.
With this tremendous and success outing, similar carnivals will be in the pipeline in various districts throughout the state soon.
The Futsal Carnival in Tawau, held at the Tawau Sports Complex on July 31, got an overwhelming response from local teams and schools from in and around the Tawau Division, which was officiated by Assistant Minister of Finance Datuk Tawfiq Datuk Abu Bakar Titingan and the closing by Safa Youth Development Chairman Datuk Yusoff Datuk Kassim.
71 teams, including 7 girls’ teams, comprising 710 young players, took part in the event, which attracted thousands.
At the end of the day, Tabs A were champs after defeating Gingga Kiddos A in the finals, while in the Girl’s category, the champions trophy went to SK Kampong Jawa, followed by PGA Kids 2 in second place, SK Kinabutan in 3rd and SK Perdana in 4th.
The challenge trophy however was scooped up by Tabs B team who beat SK Kinabutan in the final and SK Perdana emerged the winner for the Futsal trophy after defeating Tawau Sports Complex Junior.
